Palouse Area Favorites

I live in Pullman, Washington, and I'll tell you, one of the best kept secrets around here is the South Fork of the Palouse River running straight through the heart of Pullman.  Best kept secret for what, you may ask?  Well, the South Fork of the Palouse Rive in downtown Pullman is great for a lazy afternoon "grab bag" day of fishing.  With no particular species in mind, because the South Fork has several different species present, just throw your set-up in a see what you get.  I have fished it many times and caught many a Northern Pikeminnow and other species of sucker.  I have also pulled a 16" trout out of it on corn and worms, but that was years ago.  I have also heard reports of nice cats being caught off the bottom.  The City of Pullman use to release the "leftovers" from the Reaney Park Pool fish-off (when they would fill the pool with trout at the end of the seaon before shutting down and let all the kids in Pullman fish for them for the day).  Pullman stopped doing the end-of-season pool fish-off years ago, so I would be interested in the trout population in the South Fork now.  Time to get out my gear and try again this season!
